The Supreme Court allowed the Commission of Inquiry investigating the Hyderabad encounter to finalize and submit its final report after six months.

The commission was set up to investigate the encounter between four men alleged to have committed the crime of rape and murder of a veterinarian on December 6, 2019.

This investigative commission was chaired by former Supreme Court Justice Judge VS Sirpurkar (retired) and consists of Ms. RP Sondurbaldota and Mr. DR Kathikeyan, former Supreme Court Justice of Bombay and former Director of the CBI, respectively.

First, the court ordered the commission to present its report within six months of the chairman’s first scheduled hearing on the matter.

However, when the case came before the bank on July 24, 2020, the commission had requested an extension. The bank responded to the request and granted a six-month extension.

The Commission again requested an extension in January 2020, which was later approved by the court.

The commission was set up after widespread allegations against the officials who organized the encounter between four men who were alleged to have committed the crime.
