Orchard Lake Colleges & Chancellor Charged with Sexual Misconduct –
The Catholic chancellor and priest is accused of imposing himself on male subordinates.
The chancellor of Orchard Lake Schools (OLS), an academic institution in southeast Michigan, was charged with abusing his power to commit sexual misconduct and taking revenge on his victims after they reported him. Orchard Lake Schools and Reverend Miroslaw Krol are listed as defendants in the lawsuit, filed on behalf of two John Doeses in federal court in the Eastern District of Michigan. Krol heads the entire campus, including a seminar, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s High School, and a Polish cultural center.
According to plaintiffs, “Krol persecuted them, forced himself upon them and threatened their livelihoods after they refused him, and then retaliated against one after he was reported.” It continues: “Krol’s behavior reached the Board of Directors of Orchard Lake Schools and the Supreme Leader of the Archdiocese of Detroit, Archbishop Allen Vigneron. However, Vigneron was not interested in discussing the matter when it was raised by an Orchard Lake Schools trustee unless the trustee had firsthand knowledge of the wrongdoing. “
Jennifer Salvatore, one of the lawyers representing the plaintiffs, said, “Our clients are courageous men and devout Catholics who, through their experiences at Orchard Lake Schools with Father Dr. Krol. It is not easy to report this type of abuse – especially in the island world of the Church. With great courage and personal sacrifice, our customers decided to share their experience. They hope to help others who may have been similar victims and break the long-running cycle of retaliatory and cover-ups in OLS. “

Krol denied the allegations. His attorney, Roy H. Henley, of Thrun Law Firm in East Lansing responded, “Father Krol clearly denies all allegations of wrongdoing and looks forward to being confirmed. He currently has no further comment. “
Steve Gross, chairman of the Orchard Lake Schools Committee of Regents, filed a statement indicating that Krol is on administrative leave and added, “We believe that these former Orchard Lake Schools employees have made these claims doing while trying to remain anonymous, doing so incorrectly characterizes the circumstances of their terminations. It is important to note that all of the individuals named in the lawsuit are adults. These former employees who filed this employment lawsuit did not work with minors, nor did their roles affect high school on our campus. We are confident that in this case the facts will prevail, that legal process will determine that your claims are unfounded, and that we have acted appropriately at all times. “
Ned McGrath, spokesman for the Archdiocese of Detroit, also replied, saying, “SS. The Cyril and Methodius Seminary is part of the Orchard Lake Schools and is a private Polish seminary in the Archdiocese of Detroit, but not operated by the Archdiocese of Detroit. As such, Krol is a priest of the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey, and his seminary status should be regulated by the Orchard Lake Schools, and his priestly status should be directed to the Archdiocese of Newark. In relation to the federal lawsuit filed against the seminar, the Archdiocese of Detroit takes such complaints seriously and will investigate them as vigorously as possible. “
At the time of Krol’s appointment at OLS in 2017, plaintiffs allege concerns had already been raised about his behavior. The lawsuit states: “In 2008 he was appointed Vice Rector, a position he held for five years. During this time while living on the Orchard Lake Seminary campus, Krol also had a room and attended parties at the parsonage of the Sweetest Heart of Mary Church in Detroit. Witnesses claim that Krol and others engage in sexual activity with seminarians and other misconduct. “
