Different Types of Cosmetic Makeup

Though there are several cosmetics used for a wide range of reasons, all cosmetics are primarily designed to be worn externally. These products are suitable for use on the face (on the skin, lips, brows, and eyes), the body (on the skin, particularly the hands and nails), and the hair. These products may be intended for use as skincare, personal care, or to alter the appearance, with the makeup subset primarily referring to products containing color pigments intended to alter the wearer's appearance; some manufacturers will distinguish only between "decorative" cosmetics intended to alter the appearance and "care" cosmetics designed for skin care and personal care.

Most cosmetics are also characterized by the body part to which they are intended to be applied, with cosmetics made for use on the face and eyes often applied using a brush, a makeup sponge, or the fingertips. The physical makeup of a cosmetic product can also be used to define it. Cosmetics can be liquid or cream emulsions, powders (pressed or loose), dispersions, anhydrous creams or sticks, or a combination of these.

Types of Cosmetic Products that are Decorative

Primers are used on the face before applying makeup to create a smooth, translucent layer over the top of the skin, allowing makeup to be applied easily and evenly. Some primers are colored, and the tint may match or color correct the wearer's skin tone, employing greens, oranges, and purples to balance out the skin tone and fix redness, purple shadows, or orange discoloration, respectively.

A concealer is a cream or liquid substance that is used to disguise skin scars or imperfections. Concealer is usually the same color as the user's skin tone and is used after the face has been primed to balance out the wearer's skin tone before the foundation is applied. Concealer is often more pigmented, provides better coverage, and is thicker than foundation or tinted primers. Though concealer is often heavier in terms of pigment and consistency than foundation, there are a variety of formulations available for different styles of use, such as a lighter concealer for the eyes and a heavier concealer for stage makeup, as well as color correcting concealers designed to specifically balance out skin discoloration.

Foundation is a cream, liquid, mousse, or powder substance that is applied to the entire face to provide a smooth and even basis in the user's skin tone. Foundation gives less coverage than concealer and is available in formulas that provide sheer, matte, dewy, or complete coverage to the complexion.

A rouge, blush, or blusher is a liquid, cream, or powder preparation that is applied to the center of the cheeks to add or enhance their natural color. Blushers are commonly available in pink, warm tan, and brown colors, and can be used to define the cheekbones.

A bronzer is a powder, cream, or liquid substance that adds color to the skin, usually in bronze or tan colors, to give the skin a tanned look and to enhance the color of the face. Bronzer, like a highlighter, may contain ingredients that provide a shimmer or glitter look and is available in matte, semi-matte, satin, or shimmer finishes.

Highlighter is a product that is applied to the high parts of the face, such as the brows, nose, and cheekbones, in the form of a liquid, cream, or powder. Highlighter is frequently infused with chemicals that provide a shimmer or glitter look. A lighter-toned foundation or concealer can also be utilized as a highlighter.
To color, fill in, and define the brows, brow pencils, creams, waxes, gels, and powders are employed. Eyebrow tinting treatments are also used to temporarily or permanently dye the eyebrow hairs a darker color without damaging or coloring the flesh beneath the brows.

Eyeshadow is a pigmented powder, cream, or liquid substance that is used to attract attention to, enhance, and modify the form of the region surrounding the eyes, on the eyelid, and below the brows. Eyeshadow is often applied with a brush with short, rounded bristles, however, liquid and cream formulations can alternatively be applied with the fingers. Eyeshadow is available in practically every color, as well as a variety of textures ranging from matte with light coverage to glossy, shimmering, sparkly, and highly pigmented. Many different eyeshadow colors and finishes may be used in one look and blended together to generate distinct results.

Eyeliner is used to accentuate and elongate the apparent size or depth of the eye; while black is the most popular color, it may also be brown, white, or blue. Eyeliner can be applied using a pencil, a gel, or a liquid.

False eyelashes are used to lengthen, enhance, and volumize the lashes. False eyelashes, which typically consist of a small strip to which hair - either human, mink or synthetic - is attached, are typically applied to the lash line using glue, which can be latex or latex-free; magnetic false eyelashes, which attach to the eyelid after magnetic eyeliner is applied, are also available. False eyelash patterns range in length and color and include rhinestones, diamonds, feathers, and lace. False eyelashes are not permanent and may be removed with your fingertips. Eyelash extensions are a more long-term solution for achieving this appearance. Each set lasts two to three weeks before needing to be replenished, similar to how artificial nails are maintained. To begin applying for extensions, the trained lash artist would tape down the bottom eyelashes. The lash artist would next use two tweezers, one to isolate the natural lash and the other to attach the artificial lash. Using lash adhesive designed for this purpose, an individual fake eyelash, or lash fan, is affixed to one genuine eyelash. The eyelashes should not be tangled. The length and thickness of the fake lash should not be excessive in comparison to the real eyelash. If this procedure is followed correctly, there will be no damage to the natural eyelashes.

Mascara is a substance that is often thick and cream inconsistency that is applied using a spiral bristle mascara brush to darken, lengthen, thicken, or beautify the eyelashes. Mascara is typically black, brown, or clear, although a variety of colors, some of which incorporate glitter, are available. Mascara is often promoted and sold in a variety of formulas with attributes such as waterproofing, volume enhancement, length enhancement, and curl enhancement, and can be used in conjunction with an eyelash curler to improve the natural curl of the eyelashes.

Lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner, and lip balms are all examples of lip goods. Lip cosmetics are widely used to enhance color and texture to the lips, as well as to moisturize and define their exterior margins. Lip products that provide color and texture to the lips, such as lipsticks and lip glosses, are frequently available in a variety of colors and textures, such as matte finishes and satin or glossy finishes. Other types of lip coloration products, such as lip stains, briefly saturate the lips with a dye but do not usually change the texture of the lips. Lip color and lip liners can both be waterproof, and they can be applied straight to the lips, with a brush, or with your fingers. Lip balms, although intended to moisturize and protect the lips (for example, by including UV protection), may also color the lips.

Face powder, setting powder, or setting sprays are used to set foundation or concealer, giving it a matte or uniform appearance and covering minor imperfections or blemishes. Powders and setting spray both promise to protect makeup from seeping into or melting off the skin. While setting sprays are normally not tinted, setting powder and face powder can be transparent or tinted and can be used to bake foundation to make it last longer on the face. Tinted face powders can also be applied without foundation or concealer to provide a very sheer coverage base.

Nail paint is a liquid that is used to color one's fingernails and toes. Transparent, colorless nail polishes can be used as a top or base layer to protect the nail or nail polish. Nail polish, like eyeshadow, comes in practically every color and a variety of textures, including matte, shimmer, glossy, and crackle.
